“It is premature to jump to conclusions about the new virus variant identified in the U.K.,” said Dr. Wafaa El-Sadr, a professor of epidemiology at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. “This will require careful scientific research to link the rise in (the) number of COVID-19 cases in the U.K. to the virus being more transmissible.”
