In response to a proposal from New York governor Andrew Cuomo to use the expansion of rapid testing in restaurants and theaters in an effort to revive the economy, ICAP’s global director Wafaa El-Sadr, MD, MPH, MPA, urged caution in this approach, emphasizing the limitations of currently available COVID-19 testing technologies saying:

“You can imagine if people are going to the theater, to the restaurant, they’re likely to be feeling well. That’s when antigen tests are even more limited in terms of accurately identifying those with infections.”
