In a Wall Street Journal article published Feb 10, 2021, ICAP’s Wafaa El-Sadr, MD, MPH, MPA described the current public health landscape in the fight against COVID-19,  saying:

“We are really now in a race between the virus and the new variants, on one side, and on the other side the vaccine scale,” said Dr. Wafaa El-Sadr, professor of epidemiology and medicine at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health. “We need to optimize and enhance and accelerate the vaccination efforts with a focus on getting to the people who matter most. On the other hand, we need to also accelerate our efforts to suppress virus transmission.”
