Jessica Justman, MD, explains why a recent TIME poll shows that Americans with lower incomes are more likely to access medical care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Conditions like diabetes and hypertension are more common among people with lower income. They might feel like they just know they can’t miss a check-up, so they make it more of a priority,” says Justman. “People with higher income have more options for diet and exercise and are healthier overall.”
