Wafaa El-Sadr, MD, MPH, MPA, global director of ICAP, was quoted in an Oct 5 article in The New Yorker analyzing the earliest documented clusters of coronavirus infections. Dr. El-Sadr pointed out that Chinese scientists had quickly sequenced the virus’s genome, which was made available to researchers worldwide on January 11th. Dr. El-Sadr emphasized the rapidness of the public health response in China, saying:
“I honestly think that they had a horrific situation in Wuhan and they were able to contain it,” she said. “There were mistakes early on, but they did act, and they shared fast.”
