ICAP’s Wafaa El-Sadr, MD, MPH, MPA, global director of ICAP, was featured as a public health expert in a recent article by ABC News, explaining how its possible that members of Congress contracted COVID-19 while sheltering-in-place with their colleagues during the recent Capitol Riots, despite having received the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine.

“It’s really important to keep stressing that people need the two doses to be able to get the protective level of the 94% efficacy that we talk about. [Also, the vaccine] protects against the impact of the infection, meaning development of disease or severe disease. We don’t know if it protects against infection.”
