The Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences awarded Wafaa El-Sadr, ICAP director and University Professor, “the Michael Pupin Medal for Service to the Nation in Engineering, Science, or Technology”:mailto:http://cuengineeringalumni.org/ceaa-awards/pupin-medal/.
El-Sadr received the award in recognition of her lasting contributions in science, medicine, and public health that transcend the professional field and are of broad significance to society as a whole.
A decade ago, Dr. El-Sadr founded ICAP at Columbia University. Now a global leader in HIV/AIDS and health systems strengthening, ICAP has enabled more than 1.8 million people to receive HIV services in 21 countries around the world.
The Medal was first awarded in 1958 in honor of Michael I. Pupin, a legendary teacher, inventor, and engineer, who was a graduate of Columbia College and a faculty member at Columbia until 1931.
