Experts say that limited investments into the initial vaccine roll-out efforts have contributed to New York City’s relatively low vaccination rates. Wafaa El-Sadr, MD, MPH, MPA, and other experts call for a targeted, ground up report to improve the city’s vaccination campaign as eligibility expands beyond certain essential workers and people 65 and older.
“The infrastructure to be able to scale up a massive effort to reach the whole adult population rapidly isn’t there,” said El-Sadr. “For some people, you have to take the vaccine to them. You can’t expect them to come to the vaccine.”
