Although nurses are routinely rated the most trustworthy profession in the U.S. and make up the largest single body of health workers in the world, there is a lack of widespread understanding of what nursing is and how nurses are contributing to the global Covid-19 response.

In my own work with ICAP and as a nurse, I have seen time and time again the important role that nurses play not only as experts in the science of health care and treatment, but also as an important bridge to health services between health facilities and communities. By investing in our nurses and midwives, particularly through ongoing education, we can save lives and promote healthier societies during the ongoing Covid pandemic, and beyond.
