Doris Naitore is ICAP’s country representative in Kenya, overseeing the operational and technical implementation of all ICAP-supported activities. She joined ICAP in 2010 as a capacity-building advisor, focusing on strengthening the national government and local NGOs to sustain and transition PEPFAR programs to country-owned and country-led initiatives. Her successful tenure in this role led to her appointment as the country’s Strategies and Partnership Director two years later. She subsequently served as the Regional Director before becoming the Country Program Director, a position she held for four years before her current role.
Doris Naitore’s impact on public health in Kenya is best exemplified by her leadership in designing and implementing the country’s first comprehensive HIV program in 2002. This pioneering initiative laid the groundwork for subsequent HIV/AIDS efforts in the country. Her deep understanding of African health systems has been honed through extensive technical assistance to African countries, work with the Ministry of Health and the National AIDS and STI Control Program in Kenya, and her collaboration with global public health leaders and donor agencies such as CDC, WHO, UNICEF, USAID, the Global Fund for HIV, TB, and Malaria, DFID, JICA, and GIZ.
Doris holds a Diploma in Clinical Medicine, a Higher Diploma in Epidemiology, a B.Sc. in Health Sciences, and a master’s in public health. This blend of practical experience and academic credentials underscores her effectiveness as a leader and expert in public health, ensuring her competence and reliability in the field.
