China Health Aid to Africa: Achievements, Challenges, and Opportunities

ICAP partnered with Tsinghua University to conduct one of the first systematic assessments of the rationale, factors, and effects of Chinese aid contributions in Africa’s health sector. The project was designed in response to the growing recognition of China’s role as a global health donor, particularly in Africa. China has invested over $750 million in health-related activities and projects in 51 African countries, including the deployment of Chinese medical teams; construction and infrastructure enhancements of hospitals, clinics, and malaria prevention centers; medicines and medical equipment donations; and training African health providers.
