Sean Maher joined ICAP in October 2021 as director of Development and Planning. Previously, he worked at John Snow, Inc. (JSI) where he served as a senior HIV advisor and New Business Development lead for JSI’s HIV and Infectious Disease Center. In this HIV prevention, care, and treatment role, Sean focused on challenges of key population groups who remain at the fringes of the global HIV response. He supported JSI’s projects in community- and peer-led outreach, exploring new HIV testing modalities, rolling out PrEP, leading sensitivity and gender-related trainings, and reducing stigma and discrimination. In his resource mobilization role, he supported all aspects of the business development cycle and responded to calls for proposals from donors including USAID, CDC, HRSA, and BMGF. Sean has capacity development experience, especially with local partners as part of the PEPFAR transition and USAID’s New Partnerships Initiative, in administering organization capacity assessments, developing action plans and providing technical assistance to build aspects of their technical and organizational capacity. Prior to his work with JSI, Sean worked for EGPAF in Washington, DC and Maputo, Mozambique and as a consultant with ICAP in Mwanza, Tanzania, leading the Key Population Harm Reduction Project. He is on the board of directors at Housing Works, Inc. in New York City, and previously served on the board at Whitman-Walker Health in Washington, DC. He earned an MBA from Boston University and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mali.
