Columbia University President Lee C. Bollinger has appointed Wafaa El-Sadr, ICAP Director, to the rank of University Professor, Columbia’s highest academic honor. This appointment recognizes Dr. El-Sadr’s remarkable scholarship and distinguished service over many years to Columbia and society as a whole. Dr. El-Sadr joined the faculty of Columbia’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1988 and 10 years later became Professor of Epidemiology and Medicine at the Mailman School of Public Health, of which she is an alumna. In his announcement, President Bollinger emphasized Dr. El-Sadr’s achievements conducting groundbreaking research, developing innovative models of care, and playing a lead role in the global fight against HIV/AIDS. Dr. El-Sadr has become one of only 13 faculty members who currently hold this honor.
