Wafaa El-Sadr, MD, MPH, MPA, global director of ICAP, was consulted for a Nov 10 article in City & State, New York , to discuss anticipated challenges for communities of color that will arise when an approved vaccine to treat the coronavirus is ready to be distributed. The historical distrust of the medical community by underrepresented communities will require community outreach and partnerships with trusted local organizations. Dr. El Sadr says:

“It takes hard work to identify trusted community spokespeople and champions, to provide them with the information so that they can share with their own constituencies. Failing to do this will set us back and jeopardize our ability to succeed in confronting COVID-19.”
