Manhattan Times: Millions v. malaria / Millones contra la malaria
ICAP at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health received a $25 million federal grant to assist malaria diagnosis and treatment in Ethiopia, awarded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) for the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI).
Congressman Adriano Espaillat, who helped secure the federal funding, announced the grant at a press conference on April 4.
“You’d think malaria is a disease from the 1930’s, 40’s or 50’s, but unfortunately it’s still very much present today,” said Espaillat, who added that the interest in global health was a reflection of the diversity of the Congressional district he represents.
